:: The apartment of the editor-in-chief of "Narodnaya Volya" searched
MK, www.nn.by, translation, 2010-03-06
In the evening of 26 February Sviatlana Kalinkina's computers and external drives were confiscated. According to the interrogators' documents, Kalinkina is considered to be the editor-publisher of "Charter-97" website.

On the basis of the documents presented by the police, the search is to be connected to ‘the hunting case.’

‘The hunting case’ is a court trial of four high milicia officers of Homel region, who are said to have abused their authority and, more importantly, to have hunted illegally. Moreover, they were accused of pressurizing KGB employees. Supreme Court found three of them, Yermakov, Miniankov and Baranav, guilty of the charges and acquitted Malayev of them.

Meanwhile the ex-chief of Homel KGB (Committee for State Security), recently leading Grodno KGB, general Ivan Korzh, sued friends and family of the accused for alleged defamation. The article accusing the KGB officers of manipulating information was published on the Internet, in particular on ‘Belarus Partisan’ and ‘Charter-97,’ and was the reason of the interrogation and searching the apartment of another ‘Narodnaya Volia’ journalist, Maryna Koktysh, as well as the questioning of the ‘Charter-97’ coordinator, Andrey Sannikav. Now it is time for Kalinkina.

‘I have never been asked whether I was in any way connected to the case, if I knew Korzh or have ever written anything on him’ Sviatlana Kalinkina told Radio Svaboda. ‘The search of my apartment was started immediately and concluded in confiscation of my and my son’s computers, external drives and phone book. The search was unexpected and peculiar. I don’t know why the documents I was presented with I was referred to as the publisher of ‘Charter-97.’ I am an established reader of the site, but I have never participated in creating it.’
